Chemical composition of caferana (Bunchosia armeniaca) fruit: a rich source of lycopene

The present study aimed to evaluate the nutritional quality of caferana fruit, focusing on content and profile carotenoids due characteristic coloring these compounds. fruits were collected, botanically identified, evaluated for proximate composition, carotenoid sugar profile, flavonoid profile. results centesimal composition pulp were: 65 g/100g moisture; 0.72 ash; 0.92 protein; 0.78 ethereal extract; 2.83 dietary fiber; 29.73 carbohydrates caloric value 129.62 kcal/100g pulp. As sugars in pulp, 19.41 fructose 4.01 glucose obtained. fruit had a high (40 mg/100g wet basis), which 89% was lycopene (36 mg/100g), 2.5 β-carotene 0.3 lutein. Rutin identified as proved be an excellent source lycopene, with higher levels than tomato-based products.
